MGR Book Review

Aazhi Publishers have released a new 264 pages Book on our beloved Leader MGR. The book titled MGR Paettigal (எம்.ஜி.ஆர். பேட்டிகள்)  complied by S.Kirubakaran.

 

First of all I thank him for his dedicated and painstaking work he had done to bring some of MGR’s interviews given in various Newspapers and magazine and in various period. All MGR fans should have this book in their collection. The cost of the book is Rs.130/- can be ordered by email or website.

 

The interview starts with Jayalalithaa interviewing MGR for Bommai magazine in 1968, the very first question,

 

கேள்வி -  நடிப்பு துறையில் நீங்கள் ஈடுபடக் காரணம் என்ன?

எம்.ஜி.ஆர். பதில் – வறுமை

 

How simply MGR tells the truth. He further answers that his first Hero acting in Drama was Manohara as Manoharan, and he has also acted as female lead in many dramas. Below is a question regarding the movie Nadodi Mannan.

 

கேள்வி - நீங்கள் சொந்தத்தில் எடுத்த படம் நாடோடி மன்னன் சொந்தத்தில் படம் தயாரிக்க வேண்டும் என்ற எண்ணம் ஏன் வந்தது?

 

எம்.ஜி.ஆர். பதில் – நான் விரும்புவதை என் தொழிலில் செய்து கட்டவேண்டும் என்பது எனது நீங்காத ஆசையாகும். ஒரு வேளை என் விருப்பம் தவறாகவும் இருந்து விடலாம். என்னுடைய ஆசையை நிறைவேற்ற வேண்டும் என்பதற்காக பிறருடைய பணத்தை வைத்து சோதனையில் இறங்க நான் தயாராக இல்லை. நான் சொந்ததில் படம் எடுக்க இதுதான் காரணம்.

 

When the questions turned to Political side MGR answers that he joined DMK in 1952 because Aringnar Anna’s party DMK had the qualities of Gandhian principles and goes behind who was the person made arrangements to meet Annadurai, Navalar Nedunchezhian and N.V.Natarajan was T.V.Narayanasamy.

கேள்வி - பழைய உங்களது படம் ஒன்றை பார்த்தேன். அதில் கழுத்தில் ருத்திராட்சை மாலையுடன் இருக்கிறீர்கள். ஏதேனும் ஜெபம் செயது கொண்டிருந்தீர்களா?

 

எம்.ஜி.ஆர். பதில் – நான் வணங்கும் கடவுளுடைய நாமத்தை எப்போதும் நினைவில் வைத்துக் கொள்வதற்காகத்தான் அந்த மாலையை கழுத்தில் அணிந்து கொணடிருந்தேன. இப்போது அந்த மாலை இல்லாமலேயே கடவுளை நினைத்துக் கொண்டே இருக்கும் தகுதியை நான் பெற்றிருப்பதாக நினைக்கிறேன். ஒரு சின்னத் திருத்தம் அது ருத்ராடசை மாலை அல்ல. தாமரை மணி மாலை. திருப்பதியில் நானே வாங்கிய மாலை அது.

 

Everybody knows how MGR helps others even they are his foes below is a question and see how MGR answers.

 

கேள்வி – பலருக்கு பல ஆயிரக்கணக்கில் உதவி வரும் நீங்கள் எப்போதாவது, யாரிடமாவது ஏதாவது உதவி பெற்றிருக்கிறீர்களா?

 

எம்.ஜி.ஆர். பதில் – பிறருடைய உதவியினாலேயே வளர்ந்தவன் நான் என்பதை திட்டவட்டமாக தெளிவாக புரிந்து கொள்ளுங்கள்.

 

MGR was a great Action Hero he was undefeated in this department some called him as Attai Kaithi veeran  who cannot digest that he was supreme in Action movies here is the answer to that question which appeared in Nadigan Kural in 1961.

……… குறை கூறுபவர்கள் வேண்டுமென்றே சொல்கின்றனர், அறியாத்தனத்தால் அல்ல, தாங்கள் சொல்வது சரியல்ல என்பது அவர்களுக்கே தெரியும். ஆகவேதான் இது போன்ற பல்வேறு கேள்விகளுக்கு நான் பதில் சொல்லாமல் விட்டுவிடுவது வழக்கம்.

 

சினிமாவில் எனக்கு இதுவரை அட்டைக் கத்தியை வைத்துச் சண்டை செய்து பழக்கமில்லை. அநேகமாக எனக்குத் தெரிந்த பலரும் அட்டைக் கத்தியை உபயோகப்படுத்தியதில்லை. மரக்கத்தி உண்டு. ஆங்கில படங்களில் பார்த்திருக்கிறேன். சினிமாவில் சண்டைக் காட்சிகளுக்கென அட்டைக் கத்தி இதுவரை உற்பத்தி செய்யப்பட்டதாகவோ, இறக்குமதி செய்யப்பட்டதாகவோ நான் கேள்விப்பட்டதில்லை. பெரிய கவிஞரை சம்பந்தப்படுத்திய கேள்வி என்பதானால் ஓரளவு விளக்கம் கூற முனைந்தேன். இப்பொழுது புரிந்து கொண்டிருப்பீர் என்று நினைக்கிறேன்.

 

The question about which film he liked in his 100 odd movies he mentions that Petral than Pillaiya and En Thangai as his favourite movie. And another question about Raj Kapoor movie Sangam is given below we can understand how MGR has planned his career and why his acting and approach is different from others.

 

கேள்வி – நடிப்பு கருவூலம் ராஜ்கபூர் நடித்த சங்கம் படம் போல் சிறந்த நடிப்பு, சிறந்த இயக்கம் சிறந்த பாடல்கள் அமைந்த ஒரு படத்தை தமிழ்நாட்டு மக்களுக்கு அளிப்பீர்களா?

 

எம்.ஜி.ஆர். பதில் – அவருடைய பெயர் ராஜ்கபூர், என்னுடைய பெயர் எம்.ஜி.ராமச்சந்திரன். ஒருவரைப் போல் இன்னொருவர் ஆக முடியாது. கூடாது. ஒவ்வொருக்கும தனக்கென்று ஒரு பாணி, தனக்கென்று ஒரு பாதை இருந்தே ஆக வேண்டும்.

 

 

Most of the questions of those from 1960 to 1970 belong to movies and his personal likings but after 1972 the questions were mostly about ADMK, his principles, his future after elections etc.

 

Below is the excerpt from his interview given in New Delhi after visiting the President of India on November 1972.

 

கேள்வி – நீங்கள் மந்திரி பதவிக்கு ஆசைப்பட்டீர்களா?

 

எம்.ஜி.ஆர். பதில் – அது நான் விரும்பாத பதவி. நான் விரும்பி இருந்தால், அண்ணா காலத்திலேயே மந்திரி ஆகி இருப்பேன். மந்திரி பதவியை நான் ஏற்க மறுத்ததால்தான், மந்திரி பதவிக்குரிய அந்தஸ்து கொண்ட சிறுசேமிப்பு துணைத் தலைவர் பதவியை எனக்கு கொடுத்தார்.

 

கேள்வி – உங்களுக்கு சேரும் கூட்டமெல்லாம் நீங்கள் பிரபல சினிமா நடிகர் என்பதால் இருக்கலாம அல்லவா?

 

எம்.ஜி.ஆர். பதில் – நான் நடிகன், ஆனால் என்னைப்போல எத்தனையோ நடிகர்கள் உள்ளனர். இவர்கள் எல்லாம் என் போலவே இயக்கம் ஆரம்பித்தால் ஒவ்வொருவருக்கும் இப்படிக் கூட்டம் சேரும் என்று சொல்ல முடியுமா?

 

When some delicate questions arise see how MGR tackles them and how deep he thinks before answering such questions  it may be his own image, his party or his foes he was careful in handling and when we read that we feel he was a decent politician like his Mentor.

 

கேள்வி – 12.1.1973 அன்று வேலுரில் நடைபெற்ற காங்கிரஸ் பொதுக்கூட்டத்தில் சிவாஜி கணேசன், அண்ணா தி.மு.க.வைச் சாக்கடை என்று ஏளனமாகப் பேசினார். அவருக்கு தாங்கள் கூறும் பதில் என்ன?

 

எம்.ஜி.ஆர். பதில் – நான் படித்த ஏடுகளில் அப்படிப் பேசியதாக எந்தச் செய்தியும் தெரியவில்லை.

 

கேள்வி – பிலிமாலயா பத்திரிகையில் சந்திரபாபு எழுதும் கதைக்குத் நீங்கள் ஏன் மறுப்புத் தெரிவிக்கவில்லை?

 

எம்.ஜி.ஆர். பதில் – கதைக்குப் போய் யாராவது மறுப்பு தெரிவிப்பார்களா.

 

கேள்வி – தங்களுக்கு அரசியல் தெரியாது என்று தமிழ்வாணனும் சிவாஜி கணேசனும் சொல்லி இருக்கிறார்கள். உங்கள் கருத்து என்ன?

 

எம்.ஜி.ஆர். பதில் – கற்றது கை மண் அளவு கல்லாதது உலகளவு என்னைப் பொறுத்தவரையில் இது பொருந்தும் இதை நான் ஏற்றுக் கொள்கிறேன்.

 

கேள்வி – உங்களது கட்சி நாளிதழில் சிவாஜி கணேசனைப் பற்றிய செய்திகள் வெளியிடப்படுகின்றனவே?

 

எம்.ஜி.ஆர் பதில் – சிவாஜி கணேசன் எதிர்கட்சியிலிருந்து கொண்டு அண்ணாவின் தி.மு.கழகத்தை எதிர்த்துக் கொண்டிருந்த நேரத்தில் அமரர் அண்ணா அவர்கள் ஒரு நாள் சிவாஜி கணேசன் அவர்களின் நாடகத்திற்கு தலைமை தாங்கிப் பாராட்டியதை மறந்துவிட்டீர்களா?

 

எங்கிருந்தாலும் வாழ்க என்று அண்ணா வாழ்த்தவில்லையா? அவருடைய தம்பிகளான நாங்கள் அவரைப் பின்பற்றி நமது கடமையை நாம் செய்வோம். (அண்ணா நாளிதழ் 10.11.1976)

 

In 1977 elections MGR’s ADMK Party won and MGR became the Chief Minister. All MGR Fans know who will become Chief Minister when MGR started his own party in 1972, but MGR did not say a word about instead how he answers that question is given below.

 

கேள்வி – புரட்சித் தலைவர் அவர்களே 1976-க்கு பிறகு தாங்கள் ஆட்சிக்கு வந்தால் அரசியலில் முழு மூச்சாக ஈடுபடுவீர்களா? அல்லது கலைத்துறையில் இருந்து பணியாற்றுவீர்களா?

 

எம்.ஜி.ஆர். பதில் – உங்கள் தீர்ப்பும் சட்டத்தின் தீர்ப்பும் என்ன கட்டளை இடுகிறதோ அப்படி நடப்பேன்.
